Walking Wheat Ridge
I chose to kick off my campaign canvassing on the east side of District 2—a place where many constituents have told me they often feel their voices aren’t fully heard. I started my walk along the Wheat Ridge border on Sheridan Boulevard, from 41st Avenue down to 38th. With cars rushing past on this busy arterial road, I quickly understood their concerns. The narrow sidewalks—far below today’s safety standards—make it intimidating for anyone on foot.
It was no surprise that residents’ top worry is pedestrian safety, especially for those who rely on Sheridan to reach their neighborhood King Soopers. In winter, when snow and ice make walking even more treacherous, their challenge only grows.
Addressing this is no simple task: Sheridan is a state highway that runs through Wheat Ridge, Denver, and Mountain View. Improving it means coordinating with CDOT and multiple cities—a complex effort that requires experience and persistence.
That’s where my years of working across all levels of government give me confidence. I’ve already raised this concern with our city manager and learned that a formal study is being launched to examine solutions - DRCOG Sheridan Corridor Safety Study. Please check out DRCOG’s website where you can voice your concerns and give feedback. With collaboration, planning, and steady advocacy, I believe we can make this corridor safer for everyone—and ensure our neighbors on the east side know their voices are truly shaping the future of Wheat Ridge.
